Why it works
Soft at first touch. Steady underneath.
HIMARI combines a cotton surface, 25% wool blend filling, and a firm center core. The result is calm support for nightly floor sleep without making the room a permanent bedroom.
The work, shown as it is done
A Japanese shikibuton from an active workshop.

Sleep feel
Room to settle, turn, and sleep close to the floor.
HIMARI is built for a firm, level surface. The surface has a calm quilted touch; the center keeps the body grounded instead of sinking deeply.
Settle in gently.
The quilted surface feels soft at first touch while the inner support keeps the shikibuton steady.
Move naturally.
A generous sleep surface leaves room to shift from back to side through the night.
Fold it away.
After airing, fold HIMARI into thirds and return the room to daytime use.
Shown with the Single size, 210 × 100 cm. Fit and feel vary by body size and personal preference.
Product proof

Look closely at how thick HIMARI is, how the firm core supports it, what sits inside, and how the surface is quilted.
Around 10 cm.
A soft top with a steady center. The official measurement is approximate because fiber bedding changes with humidity and handling.
Firm support inside.
HIMARI is not softness alone. The in-house firm polyester core supports the waist, hips, and natural body line.
Clearly arranged.
Cotton cover, wool-blend filling, firm support core, wool-blend filling, and cotton cover on the reverse side.
Quilted with care.
Close-set stitching helps keep the filling evenly distributed across the sleeping surface.
Flexible Japanese floor sleep
A bedroom at night. Living space by morning.
Lay HIMARI out when it is time to sleep, then fold and air it when the day begins.
Placement · floor to frame
Place HIMARI where the surface is firm, level, and breathable.
Compare four suitable settings, from traditional tatami to a firm, ventilated frame.
Prepared hard floor
Use only with moisture control and regular airing. Do not seal moisture under the shikibuton.
Tatami
The traditional setting: close to the floor, naturally breathable, and easy to clear away each morning.
Bunk or platform
A practical choice for compact rooms if the base is firm, level, well-supported, and ventilated.
Low frame
Works when the frame gives even support and airflow. Avoid soft, sagging, or uneven bases.

What is the difference between HIMARI and SORA?
HIMARI is our signature everyday model, with approximately 10 cm of loft and a balanced, medium-firm feel. It is an approachable introduction to Japanese floor sleep.
SORA is our fuller flagship model, with approximately 12 cm of loft and a 50% wool blend for sleepers who prefer deeper cushioning.

Please measure your space before checkout. For sizing questions, contact info@ofutonkobo.com before placing your order.
Where can I use HIMARI?
Use HIMARI on a firm, level, clean, and breathable surface such as tatami, prepared hard flooring, a platform board, or a stable bed frame.
Avoid damp, plush, sagging, uneven, or poorly ventilated surfaces. For direct floor use, place a breathable moisture-control layer underneath and air the shikibuton regularly.
Does it need time to recover after delivery?
Yes. HIMARI is compressed for international delivery. After opening, lay it flat in a well-ventilated room and allow approximately 8 to 12 hours for the loft to relax.
Recovery time varies with temperature, humidity, and the length of transit. Air both sides before first use when conditions allow.
Can I wash the whole shikibuton?
No. Do not machine-wash, soak, or wash the entire shikibuton. Use a removable sheet or cover for everyday protection.
Blot small spills promptly and clean only the affected area. Let it dry completely before use.
