Our Story / Oyama, Tochigi
Japanese shikibuton, made in our Tochigi workshop.
OFUTON KOBO / お布団工房
OFUTON KOBO / お布団工房 makes Japanese shikibuton in Oyama, Tochigi. Our family business began with Takahashi Cotton Shop in 1873. Today, our team carries that work forward, from preparing the filling to the final inspection.

A family trade,
carried forward.
From a Tokyo cotton shop to the workshop we know today. The place and the work have grown; the care passes from one generation to the next. Nakajō Yūsuke is the fifth generation of the family, counted from founder Takahashi Yōzō (1873).

Read our approach to making a futon
In our workshop, each day turns on a simple thought: when a futon reaches your hands, we hope you will quietly say, “this is good.” That thought connects the people making our bedding today with the family business that began at Takahashi Cotton Shop.
As more of our lives move online, descriptions become more elaborate, while the real differences between products can become harder to see. We believe it helps to know who made a futon, how it was made, and the care behind it. The people on this page are part of that answer.
Our intention is to let you look closely: at the workshop, at the work, and at the people responsible for it. Then choose the shikibuton that feels right for your everyday life.
